Signature : Miyatsu Ju Unju Toshitane saku
Meiji 3 nen Aki 8 gatsu kichijitsu(Lucky day August 1870)
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Miyatsu Ju Unju Toshitane belongs to Jyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
habaki:copper single habaki.
Blade length : 68.0 cm or 26.77 inches.
Sori : 1.4 cm or 0.55 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.94cm or 1.15 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.16 cm or 0.85 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Meiji period. 1870
Shape : The blade is regular size with small sori and longer kissaki.
On both sodes of the blade engrave Bo-Hi.
Jitetsu :Koitame hada well grained with jinie attach nice texture.
Hamon : Biedeki gunome midare with ashi work.
In Hamon, Long Kinsuji work in hamon.
Boshi is Midarekomi style active wild feeling.
Special feature : Toshitane was a swordmaker of the Tango Miyatsu domain whos real name is Cyuzo Ikeda.
He was working under the Ishido Unjyu Korekazu well known sword maker in Edo.
The Jigane and Hamon both as same as his master Korekazu.
The name Unjyu was given from his master.
Probably he was helping making sword for his master Korekazu.
At his independent professional swordsmith from his master,
he was permitted to use Unjyu on his sword signature.
The blade is looks like as same as his master Korekazu.
The blade has long kinsuji on his sword and wild feeling
active hamon. He was helping his master for a long period
so it is quite rare to see his sword.
back ground of the history: At Meiji 3rd September 17th
At Tokyo city, junior high school was established.
At Meiji 3rd September English school was founded
by Mary gitter American english teacher.
This school right now is called Feries women university.
It is quite surprised the development speed just only
3 yeas from old Edo period to Meiji period.
