Katana in Shirasaya(NBTHK Hozon paper)

Signature : Mumei (Takada school)
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 63.4 cm or 24.96 inches.
Sori : 1.2 cm or 0.47 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.94 cm or 1.15 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.07 cm or 0.81 inches.
Kasane : 0.62 cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : It is O-Suriage Mumei with much width and thickness.
It is strong O-kissaki katana.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jini attached.
There is fine Chikei works attached. It is clear jigane and some utsuri appearing.
Hamon : Nie Deki tight suguha with ashi well attached. There are much activities towards that tip.
It is overall tight hamon. Boshi is Midare-Komi round end.

Specia; Feature: It is said that the founder of Takada school was Tomomitsu or Tomoyuki.
Tomomitsu followed in the wake of Samonji in Chikuzen province,
and sometimes he was called Bungo Samonji.
There are some swords that “Sa” is engraved on their Nakago in Sue- Takada swords.
Takada school until Meio era(1492) is called Ko-Takada (old Takada).
But Ko-Takada blades is very rare.
Sometimes, signature “Fujiwara” is engraved on Ko-Takada blades’ Nakago.
And so Ko-Takada is called also Fujiwara Takada to distinguish from Taira Takada.
Anyway Takada school continued very long time, until Edo period.
This late Muromachi period piece has an extremely nice jigane. F
