This Mumei (Aoe) belongs to Jyojyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished by high ranking polisher.
Habaki : Gold foiled double habaki.
Blade length : 71.3 cm or 28.07 inches.
Sori : 1.8 cm or 0.70 inches.
Mekugi : 4
Width at the hamachi : 3.18 cm or 1.25 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.25 cm or 0.88 inches.
Kasane : 0.66 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Late Kamakura period.
Shape : The blade is oo-suriage mumei(cut shortened) attributed as Aoe.
The blade has Bo-hi on both sides of the blade and wide and thick with deep sori and longer kissaki nice looking shape.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with jinie attach and chikei work beautyful texture which is called Chirimen hada(texture) and nice midare utsuri appear.
Hamon : Niedeki suguha with small gunome mixed and small ashi, Yo sunagashi and Kinsuji scatter in Ha.
Boshi is large shape togari and hakikake style Yakizume boshi.
Special feature : According to the early 11 century 's famous book Ouraimono(new sarugakuki) which was mentioned variety famous items or culture on the book.
One story was mentioned Aoe sword. After 2 century passed,
Aoe school which was succeeded high ranking reputation appeared at Takanashi river and prospered as a group of Aoe school.
Until middle Kamakura period, Aoe school is called Koaoe(old Aoe school) and middle Kamakura period to Nanbokucyo period is called Aoe school.
Koaoe school's special feature is Konie deki suguha hamon mainly and Aoe school is Nioikuchi tight and bright hamon and bigger size.
This sword is wide and top width is almost same size and longer kissaki.
Kitae(grain) is koitame had hadatachi jigane(chirimen hada)with jinie attach and chikei work and midair utsuri appear on the Ji.
Hamon is middle suguha(cyu suguha) komidare hamon small ashi, Yo and sunagashi,Kinsuji scatter in Hamon.
So the blade was made at late Kamakura period to early Nanbokucyo period.
The blade is healthy keeping well condition for along period which is very good work Aoe school.
