This Gashu Jyu Fujiwara Kagehira belongs to Jyosaku ranking.
The blade was polished
Blade length : 71.1cm or 27.95inches.
Sori : 1.1cm or 0.43inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 3.13cm or 1.23inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.19cm or 0.86inches.
Kasane : 0.7cm or 0.28inches.
Era : Edo Period Circa Kanei
Shape : It is wide and thick nice Sori with long Kissaki.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with Jinie attached.
It is black JIgane with much hada pattern appearing.
Hamon : NIe deki Gunome midare with fine Sunagashi work.
Double ha is engraved and Boshi is round Hakikake style.
Special feature : Gashu Jyu Fujiwara Kagehira is the first son of first generation Kanewaka.
His real name is TSujimura Shiro Uemon. j
He has been active as a student ofKanewaka school and has descended the Tsujimura Family.
His piece is similar to KAnewaka. It is Soshuden style work which has rustic jigane
from the Monouchi area through the Kissaki.
This piece has back signature Kanei 16nen NIgatsu-hi.
This blade shows both traits of Keicho period and Kanbun katana.
The Kissaki is Keicho shape and the slight Sori is typical of Kanbun Shinto shape.
Hence, It is rare to have the era name Kanei 16th year February.
This masterpiece was made by second generation who has imitated the first generation work.

Tsuba : Mokko shape iron tsuba with family crest engraved and inlaid with gold.
Fuchikashira : Kojiri: Shakudo Ishimeji
Saya : Red and black Kawari-nuri lacquered saya.
Menuki : Pattern is engraved and inlaid with gold.
Historical Background: Kanei 14th yea. Portugal has
Kanei 16th Year Hirado Shokan(office of trading) was moved to Nagasaki Dejima.
