This Hoki kami Taira Ason Masayuki belongs to Jyojyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 72.6 cm or 28.58 inches.
Sori : 2.1 cm or 0.82 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.24 cm or 1.27 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.39 cm or 0.94 inches.
Kasane : 0.68 cm or 0.26 inches.
Era : Edo period, Kansei era.
Shape : Wide and thick blade with large Sori.
Kissaki is long.
Jitetsu : Ko-Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attach.
There are many Chikei.
Hamon : Nioi Deki, Gunome Midare and Togarigunome Midare with thick Nioikuchi. Boshi is Midarekomi, like Kaen, Hakikake.
Special feature : Hoki (No) Kami Masayuki was born as a son of the Second Masayoshi in1733.
Masayuki learned under Miyahara Masachika and served the domain of Satsuma.
Following the achievements of Mondo (No) Sho Masakiyo and Ippei Yasuyo, Masayoshi is known
as one of the representative swordsmith in the first half Shinshin-to period in that province
and ranked at Jojo-saku among the shinshin-to swordsmiths. Masayuki used the name Masayoshi
on his early works. On the occasion to be the Hoki- (No) Kami in 1789,
he changed the signature Masayoshi. The workmanship resembles to Soshu-den style influenced by Shizu province.
Distinctive long line called Imozuru appear on the ha as a traditional Satsuma-to.
Masayuki passed away in 1819, aged 87. He had excellent abilities
not only forging sword as a retained swordsmith but also left a note concerning
with forging sword and trained many pupils.
The same thing can be said of Suishinshi-Masahide at Edo.
Masayuki, Motohira both sword makers are quite well known as top ranking satsuma sword makers.
They made active hamon with kinsuji in Hamon and long Imozuru on the Hamon
and also long Chikei in Jigane.
Both sword makers are making Sizu.
