Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae (consignment sale)
Signature : Norinaga (Signature not guarantee)
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijo saku, Jojo saku Jo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Jo saku ranking.
The blade is polished.
Habaki : Copper single Habaki.
Blade length : 69.2 cm or 27.3 inches.
Sori : 1.0 cm or 0.3 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi :2.69 cm or 1.06 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.23 cm or 0.88 inches.
Kasane : 0.64 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : The blade is cut shortened but the signature is remaning perfectly.
The blade is having regular thickness and width with deep curve, long Kissaki nice looking shape.
Jigane : Koitame-hada and Mokume-hada mixed with Jinie attach. Clear Utsuri appear on Ji texture.
Shinogiji texture : Jigane is same as Hiraji.
Hamon : Koniedeki Choji Midare double Hamon with Sunagashi and Asi work. Boshi is Midarekomi style.
Special feature : The signature is mentioned as Norinaga but not the first generation. We have no idea this signature is done by more later generation, or could be the swordsmith with same name from other district like Bizen, Shikkake, Kaga or Yamato province.
I feel this signature is Norinaga from Kaga province but this is my personal opinion.
The signature looks genuine but as the blade is consignment sale item, we couldn’t guarantee NBTHK Hozon paper.
The blade is having active temper line and nice Jigane with clear Utsuri.
Koshirae : Japanese Imperial Navy sword mounting with vintage Tsuba.
Probably someone’s father presented family treasure for his son going to the front during WW2.
