Choroku 3 Nen 2 Gatsu Hi (February 3rd, 1459)
Mid Koto : Chujo saku ranking : Bizen
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijo saku, Jojo saku, Jo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Jo saku ranking.
The blade is polished.
Habaki : Gold foiled and Silver double Habaki.
Blade length : 60.8 cm or 24.0 inches.
Sori : 2.3 cm or 0.9 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the Hamachi : 2.80 cm or 1.10 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.77 cm or 0.70 inches.
Kasane : 0.62 cm or 0.24 inches.
Era : Middle Muromachi period, A.D.1450.
Shape : The blade is keepeing Ubu Nakago with deep curve nice elegant shape.
Jigane : Itame-hada and Mokume-hada mixed with Jinie attach and Utsuri appear on surface of the blade.
Hamon : Niedeki Suguha with Ashi, Sunagashi and also Kinsuji work very active. Boshi turns round shape.
Special feature : Bishu Osafune Yukikage is a swordsmith active at Bizen province from around Choroku era (1459) who was called Shinbei.
According to the Fujishiro book, His first sword was forged at Kosei 3rd
(1457) so this sword should be forged while he was still young and energetic.
The blade is faving deep nice curve and clear Utsuri appear and also nice Suguha Hamon with Ashi and Sunagashi, Kinsuji work very active clear Hamon.
He seems to be not so skilled on engraving signature in this ages but the Kanji character is very tasteful.
The blade is in saber type Koshirae used by Imperial Japan Army and Navy.
