The blade was polished.
Habaki: Copper single foiled habaki
Blade length : 71.3cm or 28.07 inches.
Sori : 1.0cm or 0.39inches.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.22cm or 1.27inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 0.62cm or 0.24inches.
Kasane : 2.15cm or 0.85inches.
Era : Meiji 2year (1869).
Shape : It is wide and thick katana. The kissaki part is long. It is massive katana.
Jitetsu :Koitame hada well grained with jinie attached, It is muji style jigane.
Hamon : NIe structure gunome midare with mixture of choji midare.
Ashi is well attached and also many yo activities.

Special feature : Sashu Jyu Fujiwara Motohiko is a sword smith from late Edo period and has
oved to Sado(NIgata prefecture). There is unique characteristic on the nakago filing where the
filing mark is engraved vertically.

Historical background: Sado is known for Kanayama and is told that many prisoners have been
working there. This katana is a well made sword of Sashu Ju Fujiwara Motohiko.
At Meiji 4th year when the sword prohibition was issued, sword smiths had no choice
but to quit there job.
