Katana in Shirasaya with Tachi Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon paper) (consignment sale)
Signature : Orikaeshi-mei Bishu Osafune Moriyuki.
Mid Koto : Chujyo-saku ranking : Bizen province.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijo saku, Jojo saku Jo saku and regular saku).
This sword belongs to Jo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold Iroe colored copper single Habaki.
Blade length : 65.5 cm or 25.9 inches.
Sori : 1.2 cm or 0.47 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.84 cm or 1.1 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.70 cm or 0.67 inches.
Kasane : 0.59 cm or 0.23 inches.
Era : Late Nanbokucho period.
Shape : The blade is Suriage Nakago and folded the part of the tang (Nakago) in order to make the signature remain.
The blade is standerd size in width, thickness with Bo-hi are engraved both sides of the blade.
Kissaki is long elegant shape.
Jigane : Komokume-hada well grained with Jinie attach and Utsuri appear on Ji.
Hamon : Konie-deki small Choji-midare Hamon with many Ashi.
Boshi is Sansaku and Yakizume style round shape.
Special feature : Bishu Osafune Moriyuki was active during end of Nanbokucho period.
The blade looks a stream of the Kozori bizen school.
Hamon is typical Moriyuki nice temper line but on the front, the Hamon became Suguha style because of the long ages made the blade slightly tired.
The blade is good shape and nice active small Choji-midare Hamon.
The reason why the blade has Orikaeshi Mei is to keep the signature remain when ancient Samurai orderd to Suriage (cut shorten) Nakago.
Koshirae : Tachi Koshirae (mounting) crafted at modern ages for this blade.
The condition is very good.
Historic background : End of the period of northern and southern dynasties. At Mabokucho period, there were two emperor in each dynasties and fought for the official authority of the imperial court.
