Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon Paper)
Signature: Mumei (Echizen Kanetane)
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 75.2cm or 29.60 inches.
Sori : 1.5cm or 0.59 inches.
Mekugi: 3
Width at the hamachi : 3.13cm or 1.23 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.99cm or 0.78 inches.
Kasane : 0.80cm or 0.31 inches.
Era : early Edo period, Keicho era.
Shape : It is suriage mumei piece.
There are double hi. On the back side, there is bohi and hi that
is attached. It is wide and thick long boshi shape.
It is nice quality Keichso Shinto shape katana.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with jinie attached.
Hamon : Nie base, konotare with mixture of gunome.
There are ashi well attached. Active sunagashi and
kinsuji works. Boushi is loose line round shape burned down.
Special feature : This katana could be identified as keicho
shinto shape katana with echizen jigane.
The NBTHK judged as Echizen Kanetane however,
it is close to Yasutsugu. It is wide and thick shape.
Excellent piece of work. There are some loose hada seen
30cm from sashiura to hamachi area. It is not serious.
