Tanto in Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon paper)
Signature : Mumei (Osafune Yoshimitsu)
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku, Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Mumei (Osafune Yoshimitsu) belongs to Jyojyo ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold double foiled habaki
Blade length : 22.1 cm or 8.70 inches.
Sori : No curve on blade
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.09 cm or 0.82 inches.
Kasane : 0.56 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Nanbokucho period Jōji era.(around 1362~1368)
Shape : Blade slightly thick and wide then usual. Well balanced length and shape.
Jitetsu : Mokume-hada well grained with Jinori attached, fine Chikei and Utsuri appear on surface.
Hamon : Konie-deki, Choji-midare strongly appear on surface of the blade. Ahi, Yo, Kinsuji works well.
Boshi-midare turns on edge.
Special feature : Osafune Yoshimitsu is second son of Bizen Kagemitsu and called himself Saemon-dayu.
His blades style are different from his father, having sharp edge and Hamon rather close to Kanemitsu. They seems to had fellowship together.
This blade is Hozon-token but the quality is similar as Juyo-token class*.
*There is necessary to pass Tokubetsu-hozon Shinsa before submit to Juyo-token Shinsa.
