He was born at Kyoto and a son of the rice selling merchant and called Yohei.
At 13 years of age, he studied under the Goto Tojyo and later, he studied under the Goto Ichijyo.
He was permitted to make name as issai from his master Tojyo.
From Ichijyo,He was permitted to use the signature issai.
