At Kanbun 10th April 2nd Cutting test was done, Ogesa Otoshi.
‘Ogesa Otoshi’ means slashed from the body’s shoulder and cut off perfectly.
Shinto : Chujyo saku ranking : Higo province.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijo saku, Jojo saku Jo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Jojo saku ranking.
The blade is polished by high rank polisher.
Habaki : Silver single Habaki.
Blade length : 66,6 cm (26.2 inches.)
Sori : 0,9 cm (0.35 inches.)
Mekugi : 3
Width at the Hamachi : 3,10 cm or 1.22 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2,15 cm or 0.85 inches.
Kasane : 0,67 cm or 0.26 inches.
Era : Edo period Kanei to Kanbun era (A.D.1670).
Shape : The blade is Suriage and Machiokuri (cut shorten from Nakago of the blade) but whole signature remaining.
The blade is wide and thick with smart curve and longer Kissaki.
Jigane : Itame-hada and Masame-hada mixed with Jinie attach and Chikei work.
Shinogoji : Itame-hada and Masame-hada Shinto Jigane.
Hamon : Niedeki Gunome-midare with thick Nioikuchi and soft Habuchi, Ashi, Sunagasi, Kinsuji work.
Special feature : Kawachi (Kami) Minamoto Nagakuni is said that the student of Hojoji Kunimasa.
He was swordsmith of Kumamoto Hosokawa family and comunicated with students of the great Master Miyamoto Musashi.
According to the many books, Musashi's favorite sword was Nagakuni but I think he was connected of the many student of the Miyamoto Musashi especially Murakami Masao.
Miyamoto Musashi was staying at Hosokawa family's resident for some years.
Probably at that period Musashi might contactd with Nagakuni.
His back part of the signature is very precious Saidanmei cutting test Ogesa-otoshi.
I think from the shape of the Nakago and jigane and also Hamon, The blade looks similar to Yasusada.
We recommend this well known sword maker Nagakuni which was loved by Miyamoto Musashi. I think Nagakuni is Jojo saku ranking not Chujyo Saku ranking which is written on the book.
Koshirae :
Saya : Black Ishimeji Saya.
Tsuba :On the round shape iron Tsuba, egg plants and wickerwork pattern are carved.
Menuki : Japanese fishing boat and fisherman is carved with gold color.
Fuchikashira: flowers are engraved on Shakudo Nanakoji plate, with gold color.
