Era : Late Edo Period
Shape : The tang is cut shorten nisunn( 6cm ) but it is still 78.8 cm long,
wide （3.61cm）and thick，heavy magnificent katana.
Jitetsu : Koitame hada well grained with Beautiful jinie attached.
Hamon : Konie base, gunome midare, with the hamon is split into two at the top part.
The boshi is round end.
Special feature : Katou Chyousai Tsunatoshi is the third son of Katou Izuminokami Kunihide.
He worked as a smith in Uesugi family, the owner of Dewa Yonezawa domain.
Katou Tsunahide are his real brother.
Both has studied douranba hamon and Bizenden by Suishinshi Masahide in Edo.
This piece is suriage(cut shorten) piece that is assumed to be made for dedication sword. It is wonderful piece.
From the quality of the balde and signature, the sword was made at Tenpo era.
Tsunatoshi is contrasted with Koyama Munetsugu and both of them are about the same technical standard.
Koshirae : Tachi Issaku Koshirae(koshirae made by one craftsman).
Tsuba : Saotome Iesada: It is iron mokko tsuba with Amida yasuri and gold rim applied.
Fuchikashira : Kojiri : Those fittings are all shakudou with flower design engraved with kebori(engraved with brush like texture.)
Saya : There are sparkles of Aogai(mother of pearl) with flower design engraved on shakudou.
Menuki : Shinnchuu base with somewhat lion like animal engraved with gold inlay.
