Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Hozon Token)
Signature : Kanemoto.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku, Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword Kanemoto belongs to Jyojyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Gold foiled double habaki.
Blade length : 64.08 cm or 25.22 inches.
Sori : 2.55 cm or 1.00 inches
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.75 cm or 1.08 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.79 cm or 0.70 inches.
Kasane : 0.60 cm or 0.23 inches.
Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : The blade is Ubu nakago with Takanoha Yasurri(fail) and regular size thickness and width deep sori and longer kissaki nice looking shape.
Jigane : Itame hada well grained with jinie attach strong feeling texture.
Hamon : Niedeki gunome midare and togari gunome mixed with ashi, and Kinsuji work.
Boshi is notare and turns back round shape.
Special feature : Kanemoto and Izumi Kami Kanesada bot well known top ranking sword makers in Mino province.
The Kanemoto was working at ino Mikawa school.
Kanemoto is quite sell known sword makers and love by
many Daimyo like Toyotomi Hideyoshi,
Takeda Shingen, Kuroda Nagamasa, Maeda Toshimasa and also Aoki Kazushige which was used as cut well swords.
Especially Aoki Kazushige loved famous Aoki Kanemoto which washanded down to the Niwa familyat that period and became Jyuyo Bijyutsu at 1939.
I think at late Muromachi period Mino province Kanemoto mad a group and made many swords names Kanemoto on the tang.
This sword is very similar with 2nd generation Kanemoto the shape, jigane and also Hamon.
Especially Jigane (texture) is very attractive and also Hamon.
