Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)
Signature : Kikumon Norifusa.
Kaesaya(exrra Shirasaya) old Edo period saya(Daimyo saya)
Koto : Jyojyo saku ranking : Bizen.
The blade was polished by high ranking polisher.
Blade length : 69.84 cm or 27.49 inches.
Sori : 2.25 cm or 0.88 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.82 cm or 1.11 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.93 cm or 0.75 inches.
Kasane : 0.54 cm or 0.21 inches.
Era : Kamakura period Kencyo era. 1249-1255
Shape : The Tachi is Ubu nakago deep sori elegant style which is quite unusual rare item.
Jitetsu : Koitame had and mokume had mixed with thick jinie attach and
clear Utsuri appear which is the best quality old Japanese sword Bizen ichimonji jigane.
Hamon : Koniedeki Cyoji midair, Jyuka cyoji, Kawazaki cyoji midair mixed with soft Nioikuchi asi and yo work.
Boshi is noter double hamon and turns back.
Special feature : Norifusa was workingg at Bizen and called Hukuoka ichimonji and then he moved to Katayama district after that.
Most of Norifusa swords were Suriage nakago(cut shortened) but this sword is Ubu nakago style unusual rare sword.
The blade is quite deep sori and wonderful elegant shape and the hamon looks Fukuoka Ichimonji style not Katayama.
Probably the blade was made early stage of his subject before moving to Katayama Biccyu province.
The blade has passed more than 770 years long period.
The blade has Shinogo ji without Bo-hi so it is possible to see the texture of the Jigane which convince item had and Mokume had.
Even if watching the blade for a long hours, we can't get tired.
On the nakago, kikumon might engraved later on but it is difficult to judge because most of the Norihusa were cut shortened.
Only 2 swords are ubu nakago which is mentioned in the bllk Tokubetsu jyuyo token and Jyuyo token.
The owner said to me that the blade belonged to some Daimyo family.
