Katana in Shirasaya (59th NBTHK Juyo Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Shizu)

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Mumei (Shizu) belongs to Saijyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Blade length : 68.6 cm or 27.00 inches.
Sori : 1.55 cm or 0.61 inches.
Mekugi : 4
Width at the hamachi : 2.98 cm or 1.17 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.14 cm or 0.84 inches.
Kasane : 0.56 cm or 0.22 inches.
Era : Early Nanbokucho period, around Koe era(1342-1344)
Shape : Osuriage Mumei, Okissaki Katana.
Jitetsu : The mixture of Itame Hada and Mokume Hada with Jinie attach.
Masanagare. There are Chikei and Utsuri.
Hamon : Notare and Gunome Midare with Togari-ha.
There are Ashi, Yo, Kinsuji, Sunagashi, Uchinoke and Yubashiri. The Nie is thick.
The Nioikuchi is bright.

Special feature : This is famous as Shizu Saburo Kaneuji. He came from Mino Shizu province.
He was student of Masamune. His style is similar the Msamune, Soshu-den.
He got a high evaluation. The Shizu means that Kaneuji. He is a one of the Masamune Jittetsu
(Ten best disciples of Masamune). This Jigane is the mixture of Itame and Mokume with thick Jinie.
There are fine Chikei. The Hamon is Notare and Gunome Midare. The Nie is thick and bright Hamon.
This blade is typical Shizu work. This is excellent works of Shizu.
This blade is masterpiece of Soshu-Den.
