Katana in Shirasaya (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Paper)

Signature : Mumei (Ukai)

Sayagaki: Bizen Koku Unsho, blade length 73.4cm,
Daikinsu 100 mai, Honami Koson Kao

(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Jyo saku ranking.

The blade was polished.
Habaki :Gold double foiled habaki
Blade length : 73.4 cm or 28.89 inches.
Sori : 2.2 cm or 0.86 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the hamachi : 2.93cm or 1.153 inches.
Width at the kissaki : 2.26cm or 0.88 inches.
Kasane : 0.55 cm or 0.21 inches.
Era : Late Kamakura period.
Shape : Regular side, with deep Sori, Osuriage Mumei Katana.
Jitetsu: Ko-Itame Hada and Ko-Mokume Hada mixed this Jinie.
There is Oohada. But it is not so serious. There are Utsuri.
Hamon: Nie Deki, Suguha base with Ko-Gumome Midare mixed.
Boshi is Midarekomi Hakikake style.

Special feature : Ukai school is also called Unrui(sort of Un).
This group actives from late Kamakura period to Nanbokusho period.
According to the first letter is 雲(Un), the group is called Unrui(sort of Un).
The representative swordsmith is Unji, Unsho and Unju.
They lived in Bizen koku Ukai province(Okayama prefecture).
In the old days, they lived in Yamashiro province.
So their blade is looks like Kyo and also Bizen.
This blade is looks like slightly Rai. The work is very nice.
