Katana in Shirasaya with Koshriae(21th NBTHK Juyo paper)
Signature : Mumei(Den Unji)
Sayagaki: 21th NBTHK Juyo blade. Bicchu koku Ukai Go Ju Unji
This blade is Oosuriage Mumei. The blade length is 70.6cm
by Dr. Kanzan in 1974.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Saijo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : Sakudo and foiled gold habaki.
Blade length : 70.6cm or 27.79 inches.
Sori : 1.6cm or 0.62 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi :2.76cm or 1.08 inches.
Kasane : 0.65 cm or 0.25 inches.
Era : Late Kamakura Period to early Nanbokucho period
Shape : It is O-Suriage mumei work with bo-hi engraved on both side.
Jitetsu: Ko-Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attached. The Mokume Hada mixed. There are Utsuri.
Hamon: Ko-Nie Deki, Suguha Hamon with deep Nioikuchi and Notare.
In Ha, there are many Ko-Ashi. Boshi is round shape.
Special feature :Unji was the son of Unsho or the master of Bizen koku Ukai schol.
He was active from late Kamakura period to Nanbokucho period.
Ukai school has engraved the letter 雲-Un- onthe head
of the signautre so it is oftern called Unsho.
The work is unique and is quite easy to distinguish.
It is combination of Yamashiro Rai and Aoe.
The Unji is very elegant and suguha style with Koashi attached.
This work is elegant shape and there is clear Ji on the ha.
The hamon is suguha deki with koashi attached.
The work thoroughly has the traits of Unji.
Koshirae: It is nice condition koshirae
Tsuba: Oval shape iron tsuba with leaf design engraved and inlaid with gold and silber
Fuchikashira: Shakudo Ishimeji plate with peony design engraved and inlaid with gold.
Saya: Red Ishimeji saya.
Menuki: Shakudo plate with plant design engraved and inlaid with gold.
Historical Background: 1331 year Genkou 1st year, Emperor Godaigo
and his follower took part in anti-Shogunate movement. It is middle of the war time.
