Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae.
Signature : Oda Muneyoshi.
Ansei 2 U Nen 2 Gatsuhi.
(The blade was forged by Oda Muneyoshi February Ansei 2nd / 1855)
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijo saku, Jojo saku Jo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Jojo saku ranking.
The blade is polished by high rank polisher.
Habaki : Silver single Habaki.
Blade length : 75.6 cm or 29.8 inches.
Sori : 1.7 cm or 0.67 inches.
Mekugi : 2
Width at the Hamachi : 3.2 cm or 1.3 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.3 cm or 0.9 inches.
Kasane : 0.8 cm or 0.3 inches.
Era : Late Edo period Ansei 2 (1855 February)
Shape : The blade is long, wide and thick with nice curve and long Kissaki nice looking shape.
Jigane : Koitame-hada and Komokume-hada mixed with jinie attach well grained texture.
Hamon : Koniedeki Choji-midare Hamon with Ashi.
Boshi is Midarekomi active Hamon.
Special feature : Oda Muneyoshi lived at Iyo province and has a several variations of signature like 'Matsuyama-ju', 'Yosyu Matsuyama Ju' or 'Iyo Matsuyama-shin Oda Teiji Muneyoshi'.
He seems to be treated as a Samurai by Daimyo of Iyo Matsuyama.
But unfortunately Tokugawa shogunate transferred power back to the Emperor (Taisei hokan) and the age of Samurai has ended.
Meiji government decreed banning the wearing of swords and obliged to stop making swords.
He forged the blades very sensitive with his high rank skill. But I think the sword made by him are not remaining so much.
Koshirae :
Saya : Red color ishimeji style saya.
Tsuba : Grapes and leaves are engraved on round iron Tsuba with gold color. Grapes are the specialty of Koshu (territory of Takeda clan. Yamanashi prefecture).
Fuchi : Family crest (Mizoguchi Hishi-mon) is engraved on brass plate with gold color. Mizoguchi Hishi-mon is a crest of Takeda clan.
Kashira: Dragon is engraved on brass plate.
Menuki : Boat with rower and Samurai are engraved with gold color.
