Showa 52 nen 3 gatsu Kichijitsu 71 sai.
Explanation: Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa made this blade and use the old iron of Himeji castle
at age of 71 years at March lucky day 1977.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saki)This sword belongs to Jyojyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished.
Habaki : silver single habaki.
Blade length : 76.0 cm or 29.92 inches.
Sori : 1.52 cm or 0.59 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.15 cm or 1.24 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.10 cm or 0.82 inches.
Kasane : 0.75cm or 0.29 inches.
Era : Showa(1977)
Shape: It is wide and thick long with much Sori attached. It is nice shape katana.
Hamon: Nie deki choji midare with gunome midare combined.
There is sunagashi and kinsuji work active.
Special feature :Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa was called sakai Shigeru
Generally speaking, most of Yari are not good quality like this item.
Showa 8th year he enrolled in Yasukuni Tanrenjyo (Yasukuni forging workplace)
Showa 16th Rikugun Jyumei Tosho. His forging period in Yasukuni Shrine
was short and there is almost no sword that is remaining.
He become Mukansa swordsmith in Showa 56th year. He also had high
Toshinbori(blade engraving) skills and has left excellent engraving works.
Mukansa sword smith is strictly choosen from NBTHK Japanese sword preservation foundation.
Only the top skill swordsmith is chosen. This work is rare in that there is engraving"
Himeji Jyo Kotetsu ni oitte Seitan saku".Unlike the Sakai Ikkansai Shigemasa,
the JIgane is calm and the hamon is fine and graceful. The Kinsuji activity is clear on the blade.
