Katana(Nagamaki naoshi) in Shirasaya (40th NBTHK Juyo paper)
Signature : Oosuriage Mumei(cut shortened) attributed as Kasyu Sanekage.
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku Jyo saku and regular saku)
This sword belongs to Saijyo saku ranking.
Middle Koto : Jyo saku ranking:Ryo Wazamono cutting test ranking : Kaga province
The blade was polished by high ranking polisher.
Habaki : Gold foiled double habaki.
Blade length : 71.3 cm or 28.07 inches.
Sori : 1.7 cm or 0.66 inches.
Mekugi : 3
Width at the hamachi : 3.33 cm or 1.31 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 3.23 cm or 1.27 inches.
Kasane : 0.77 cm or 0.30 inches.
Era : Nanbokucyo period.
Shape : The blade is wide(3,33cm) Nagamaki naosi oosuriage mumei with
big Kissaki fantastic healthy blade.
Jigane : Itame hada and mokume hada mixed with jinie attach and Utsuri appear.
Hamon : Koniedeki small gunome midare and Mokume hada mixed with small ashi, Sunagashi and Kinsuji scatter.
special feature : Kasyu Sanekage was working at Nanbokucyo era (1362) at Kaga province who was a student of the great Norishige.
So his work is very similar with his master.
The blade is lackish jigane shallow notare gunome midare hamon.
This sword looks higher ranling Sosyu school at a glance.
Fortunately the blade has shinogiji so we can see the texture of the Jigane consist if itame hada and mokume hada well.
The blade was judged as Sanekage because of blackish jigane but I think the blade looks higher Sosyu sword maker.
Anyway the blade is healthy gorgeous style sword.
