Ansei 4nen 2gatsuhi (February, 1857)
Sayagaki: Suifu ju Katsumura Norikatsu saku.
6ji-mei kyo Ansei 4 kiki ari kore. Shibashiba keigan suru Sosho-mei nari,
Sakufu ha Dosaku chu ni ari, Onwa shikashite Jiha Kentai katsu Deki yoroshi.
Hacho 2shaku 4sun 9bu ari kore.
The blade was polished. Habaki is made with Shakudo plate.
Blade length : 75.7 cm or 29.80 inches.
Sori : 1.8 cm or 0.70 inches.
Mekugi: 1
Width at the hamachi : 3.10 cm or 1.22 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 2.05 cm or 0.80 inches.
Kasane : 0.87 cm or 0.34 inches.
Era : Late Edo period. Ansei era.(February, 1857)
Shape : Wide and thick and long Katana with Sori.
Jitetsu : Itame hada with Jinie and Chikei attach.
Hamon : Koniedeki Suguha, and there are double-ha.
There are much Ashi and Yo and Kinsuji in Ha.
Boshi is Yakisake style.
Special features: Katsumura Norikatsu was born as a son of samurai
served the damain of Mito in 1809 at Edo. And he was called Hikoroku.
He learned under Norimune, Hosokawa Masayoshi and Unju Korekazu.
Norikatsu and his clan lived in an official residence of the damain of
Mito in Edo around 1864 to supply swords for patriots overthrowing
the Shogunate in that period. The workmanship aimed at practical use
and strongly influenced by Unju Korekazu. Norikatsu passed away in 1872 after the Meiji Restoration in 1867, aged 64.
This blade was typically his work. And shape is wide and thick.
Especially Masame is very nice, and Kinsuji in Ha are very attactive.
