Era : Late Muromachi period.
Shape : It is quite large size Naginata of Higo Doutanuki however, there is a
letters engraved in running form at the end which unable us to read.
Jitetsu : Itame hada well grained with some clear ohada.
Hamon : Konie base, kogunome midair with ash attached. There are yo works too.
Special feature : HIgo Doutanuki school is a sword smith group that was active during Muromachi
period at Kyushu Higo Kikuchi. It is commonly accepted that this school is a descendant
of Enjyu shoal. Kyushu Hido Doutanuki Fujiwara Masakuni, Kouzukenosuke is famous and well
known for receiving the letter -正-Masa Katou Kiyomasa from Msakuni. Despite the fact that
Doutanuki school is the descendent of Enjyu school, the jigane and hamon is completely
different style. There are more wide and thick magnificent looking pieces and have also made Naginata and
yari.
Because they focused on the sharpness, there are no flamboyance and thus there are mostly simple
with some kizu. Ogami Ittou, popular movie character of the kids, is using the Doutanuki.
It is one of the sword that one would like to hold once in a life time. On Edo period Higo doutanuki school
vanished but recover at the end of Edo period. This Doutanbuki naginata is from late Muromachi period
and there are some minor kizu but it is not serious.
Koshirae: this blade has black Saya and Tsunagi.
