This Chojusai Tsunatoshi belongs to Jyojyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished by high ranking polisher.
Blade length : 23.93 cm or 9.42 inches.
Sori : No Sori
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.62 cm or 1.03 inches.
Kasane : 0.85 cm or 0.33 inches.
Era : Late Edo period.
Shape : Rather wide and thick blade.
Jitetsu : Ko-Itame Hada well grained with Jinie attach. This is beautiful Jigane.
Hamon : Nie Deki Suguha. Boshi is around Hakikake shape.
Special feature : Chounsai Tsunatoshi the First forged this katana at Edo in 1846.
Born Kato Hachiro in Dewa province, present Yamagata pref. as the Third son of Izumi (No)
Kami Kunihide in 1798, learned under Suishinshi Masahide. Kato Tsunahide,
known as its excellent Toran-ba hamon was Tsunatoshi's elder brother.
Tsunehide moved to Osaka from Edo and learned under Suzuki Harukuni.
After that Tsunahide went to Kyushu Island and forged sword at Kumamoto.
Around 1823, he lived a house of the Uesugi family at Azabu in Edo.
He passed away in 1863, aged 66.
Especially He was good friend with Seiryuken Morotoshi and asked his son to go to
Moritoshi in order to study his technique and his manner.
He made many kind of Hamon like Doranba, gunome Cyoji midair and also suguha.
This sword is bright and elegant Hamon.

Tsuba : Shakudo Hamidashi Tsuba with family crest.
Fuchikashira : Shakudo Ishimeji with cherryblossum.
Saya : Black Kizami design Saya.
Menuki : Daikoku and Ebisu god are engraved.
