Tanto in Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Paper)

Genki 4 Nen 8 Gatsu 15 Nichi(August 15th,1573)

Explanation: The Tanto was made by Kanetaka Genki 4th August 15th. Late Muromachi period. (August 25th,1573) Japanese era is slightly different with western era.
back ground of the era:genii 4th July Daimyo Nobunaga banishment Syogun Yoshiaki Ashikaga and destroyed Muromachi era.
The blade was polished.
Habaki: copper single habaki.
Blade length : 27.7 cm or 10.90 inches.
Sori : No Sori
Mekugi : 1
Width at the Hamachi : 2.66 cm or 1.04 inches.
Kasane : 0.45 cm or 0.17 inches.
Shape : The blade is regular size and thick well balanced Tanto.
Jitetsu :Itame hada well grained and Oo hada appear
and jinie attachi shark utsuri.
Hamon : Nioideki gunome midair up and down.
Boshi is Togari round shale and turns back yakisage style.

Special feature : Kanetaka is well known sword smith in Mino province.
This Tanto is very precious because the Nengo is mentioned on the nakago until last date 15th.
Genki 4th July 28(1573, August 15th) was changed to Tensyo era.
But the date of the sword was made not mated as mentioned Genki 4th August 15th.
At that time, the information(changed to Tensyo era) which was issued by Syogun didn't reach to general people.
So, sword makers used old nengo(era) without knowing this fact.
At a glance, the blade looks like Kanefusa which was fashioned by Kanefusa and other Mino school sword makers.
The blade has small oohada but not serious and atmosphere of typical Mino school. We can recommend this Tanto for you.

Tsuba :On the oval copper plate, some design are engraved both rim and Ji.
Fuchikashira :On the copper plate, some design are engraved.
Saya : Inro kizami style saya.
Menuki : On the copper plate, some design are engraved.
Kozuka : On the copper plate, some design are engraved.
wari kogai:On the copper plate, some design are engraved.
Kurikata, Kojiri, Kaerizuno:On the copper plate, some design are engraved.
