Wakizashi in Shirasaya with Koshirae（NBTHK Hozon paper)
Signature :Bizen Kuni Osafune Yokoyama Sukekane Saku.
Kaei 2Nen 8 Gatssuhi.
The blade was made at Kaei 2nd August.(1849)
Sayagaki was done by Kanzan sensei.

Choji midair wonderful The length of the blade is 1 syaku 6 sun 9 bu(51m4cm)
Kanoe Inu(Syowa 45th(1970) shiwasu(at the end of the December) lucky day. Kanzan Shi
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo saku, Jyojyo saku
Jyo saku and regular saku)
This Bizen Kuni Osafune Yokoyama Sukekane belongs toSaijyo saku ranking.
The blade was polished by good polisher.
Blade length : 51.4cm or 20.23 inches.
Sori : 1.4cm or 0.52 inches.
Mekugi : 1
Width at the hamachi : 2.68cm or 1.05 inches.
Width at the Kissaki : 1.91cm or 0.75 inches.
Kasane : 0.6 cm or 0.23 inches.
Era :Late Edo period.Kaei second.
Shape : The blade is regular size with deep sori nice elegant shape.
Jitetsu :Koitame had well graind with Jinie attach.
Hamon : From the hamachi area, suguha hamon and then Nioideki Choji midair
and Jyuka choji midair mixed, very active and gorgeous temper line.
Boshi is round shape.
Special feature : Yokoyama Sukekane was a swordsmith of Bizen province.
He was an adopted son or a pupil of Yokoyama Sukenori.
This katana is a revival of old Bizen style.
He added Tomonari 58 Dai Mago to the signature meaning that he was a descendant of Tomonari.
From the excellent workmanship, it is entirely convincing.
It is common knowledge that Tomonari of Bizen province, Yasutsuna of Hoki province
and Sanjo Munechika of Yamashiro province are the three oldest master-swordsmiths
in the Japanese sword world.
Instantly we can distinguish this Hamon as Yokoyama school.
His master Yokoyama Sukenaga made this Hamon and succeeded this Hamon.
yokoyama Sukekane was taken high reputation for this active gorgeous Hamon.
Before it is rather easier to obtain Sukekane and Sukenaga
but recency it is very hard to buy such kind of swords.
Many collectors are looking for such kind of swords.
Koshirae : Toppei style Koshirae which was once populated at the end of Edo period.
Pretty nice condition.
Tsuba :On the round shape iron Tsuba, Chinese phoenix is engraved open work.
Fuchikashira :Kojiri:On the iron plate, some design are engraved with gold and skiver inlayed.
Saya : Black color roriro saya, twisted design is engraved.
Menuki : Flying bird are engraved by syakudo plate with gold and silver inlay.
Historical background:1849at kaei 2nd, American war ship came to Nagasaki.
England warship came to Edo bay and made surveyed.
At Kaei 6th black warship arrived at Japanese harbor.
Japan was involved a lot of trouble with foreign countries.
