Wakizashi

Wakizashi:Unsigned, attributed to Mito Norimune.

Wakizashi: the NBTHK Hozon-token.
Signature: Unsigned, attributed to Mito Norimune.

The blade is polished, with a copper habaki, in a shirasaya.
Blade length: 35.0cm or 13.78inches. Sori: 0.3cm or 0.12inch. Width at the hamachi: 2.9cm or 1.14inches. Thickness at the hamachi: 0.79cm or 0.31inch.
Era: Late Edo period. 19th century.
Shape: A thick hira-zukuri wakizashi.
Horimono: Bohi and soe-hi are carved on the both sides of the blade.
Jitetsu: Masame-hada and Mokume-hada appear on the itame.
Hamon: Regular small gunome-midare. It turns to gentle pattern on the upper part of the blade.

Special feature:Norimune was a swordmsith of Mito province who learned under Ichige Norichika, known as Tokurin. Both of them exerted for the development of Mito-Shinshinto and supplied swords for loyalists of that province in late Edo period. Norimune passed away in 1899, aged 72.
